A Smart Home without cloud or internet connection

A Loxone Smart Home can intelligently take care of numerous task for you, even without a cloud or internet connection.
Functions such as automated lighting, zoned heating, multiroom audio and much more are all available without any need for the internet or the cloud. We do offer some features which need internet connectivity however these are non-crucial functions such as online weather data and push notifications to your smartphone.Even without the Cloud or internet connection, a Loxone Smart Home can still take care of 50,000 tasks per year on its own.

All tasks relating to security, comfort and efficiency in the home are still taken care of automatically and reliably. No matter how much you rely on the Cloud or internet in your life otherwise. Unlike other systems (IFTTT, Siri, Alexa), there is no storage or processing of your data in a cloud. Sensitive data, such as the number of people at home, schedules, camera images of door intercom systems, the status of the alarm system, etc. remain in your own four walls.

For many smart home solutions, which, unlike Loxone, are operated via a cloud, access is via a login on one side of the manufacturer. This login can become a central point of attack. In the Loxone system, there is no central node that can be cracked to gain access to all Miniservers. This means that Loxone has no access to the customers’ Miniservers.
Each Loxone Smart Home system is protected individually by the security mechanisms of the Miniservers and the general network security – which is in the hands of the user. Network security is a very important topic for the smart home. If this is neglected, absolute data security is uncertain. For this reason, choosing a secure network setup is essential!

Problems with Cloud-based systems

  • Dependency on the manufacturer’s server

If a manufacturer terminates a service, every single installation using that particular service instantly becomes unusable. When a Cloud-based system eventually terminates, then thousands of functioning installations become unusable day by day.
A Loxone Smart Home is not dependant on “Loxone Servers” to process logic. So, your home runs independantly of our infrastructure.

  • Lack of privacy

We’ve all heard the rumours that some systems might be listening to you; we can’t tell you if those rumours are true or not however what we can tell you it is not the case in a Loxone Smart Home. Additionally, rest assured that your data never even leaves your home, restaurant, office, hotel, etc.

  • Offline availability

Another, fairly obvious, issue with cloud-based solutions is that they do not work offline – or if they do they offer incredibly limited functionality. Therefore a stable internet connection is always required. However, an internet connection is not needed for a Loxone system to work.

A Loxone Smart Home keeps your data where it belongs – on your Miniserver. The Miniserver is the central device – the brain – of your smart home, on which your data is stored and processed.
